South Sarasota Modern Quilt Guild serves our community through quilting. Since S2MQG began in 2018, guild members have made a positive impact on our community. Hundreds of quilts have been donated providing comfort and warmth to those in need. Since 2022 our members have donated quilts to the not-for-profit organization Mothers Helping Mothers in Sarasota. Cathy Graff, Volunteer Coordinator at MHM said "It's an extremely lovely gift and every quilt is greatly appreciated." Our beautiful, donated quilts are used in the MHM New Baby Bags that are given to client moms who are about to or have just had a baby.
Our members don't just create quilts, we help make a difference by providing children's bucket hats and drawstring backpacks for The Twig in Venice. Previous beneficiaries of our donated projects included Guardian Ad-litum, All Star Children's Foundation, and Tidewell Hospice. We believe that many helping hands can make a difference in many lives. We are so grateful for the many guild volunteers who make these programs a success. We couldn't do it without you. How Can You Help? Your support is needed throughout the entire year and there are many ways to contribute. Members can volunteer to make individual quilt challenge blocks selected by the bi-monthly Block Duchess. Instructions for sewing the blocks and the due date can be found below in the projects section. The blocks are sewn by guild members and collected at the guild general meeting on or before the due date. Members can make as many blocks as they like. Volunteers then sew the blocks together to make a quilt top and complete the quilt for donation. If you are quilting from a remote location, blocks can be mailed to Margaret Monti at 272 Park Trace Blvd, Osprey, FL 34229. Volunteers Needed
You also have the option to choose your own quilting adventure. You choose the pattern or design, make it, and donate the quilt at the next guild meeting. This is a great way to experiment creatively with new blocks and techniques using your fabric stash and scraps. Community Service Quilt Requirements Mothers Helping Mothers will accept boy or girl specific or gender neutral baby quilts.
Members are asked to drop off completed quilts, blocks, and quilt tops at general meetings at the Community Service table or complete quilts can be dropped off at Margaret Monti's home: 272 Park Trace Blvd. Osprey, FL.
