Masks

Our guild has received requests from several local organizations, medical facilities, and we are rallying to support them by sewing masks! Members are donating their time, fabric and materials to support our community through this project.

As a result, we are focusing our efforts on the local medical facilities and and community organizations and will not be filling individual requests at this time.

We have provided masks to many organizations, emphasizing health care such as
  • 50 local school teachers and their in-class students.
  • surgery centers
  • local medical and mental health offices
  • hospice care
  • home health care
  • local schools, including child size and adult size masks

Our efforts were recently featured in an article on Sarasota Magazine's website and in the Sarasota Herald-Tribune.

Current guild members have access to current mask project via the members pages as well as membership emails and posts to our members-only Facebook group. This includes the requested mask sizes as well as the next pickup date, time and location.

How can I help the guild?

Our guild has received support our efforts by donating elastic, 100% quilting cotton and by donating completed fabric masks!

If you are interested in supporting the guild's efforts, we are streamlining our process by asking you to complete this form. We will provide more information to you as soon as possible.

Which pattern should I use?

The CDC guidelines for use of homemade masks is available on their website. Please continue to follow CDC, state and local guidelines for taking care of your own heath, to include social distancing and hygiene practices.

There are many patterns to make fabric masks, with/without pockets, using elastic, fabric ties, bias tape or twill tape for securing the mask to the head. Be sure to wash fabric in hot water to preshrink before cutting and sewing the masks. Some acrylic mask templates are also available for purchase from different companies.

Some of the tutorials we are using include:
  • AB Mask on Instructables.com
  • Turban Project has child and adult sizes
  • Sweet Red Poppy instructions

Requesting masks for local organizations

Our guild has received requests from several local organizations, medical facilities, and we are rallying to support them by sewing masks! Our guild is volunteer service only, as we are available. We are assembling masks as quickly as possible.

As a result, we are focusing our efforts on the local medical facilities and and community organizations and will not be filling individual requests at this time.
